How to take part in Highways England’s “Commonplace” survey on Rimrose Valley

This survey is all about how we use Rimrose Valley, not about the proposed road itself.

HOWEVER, there are clear opportunities here for us to talk about how much we love each section of Rimrose… and how we object to Highways England’s plans to build a road through it.

Here’s how to do it…

2. How to add a comment…

a. Laptop/PC: Click on “Have your say” in the top right corner of the screen

b. Mobile/tablet: click on the ‘+’ button

3. Mark the section of Rimrose you wish to talk about…

a. Laptop/PC: Use your mouse and left click to place a pin on the map

b. Mobile/tablet: Tap the screen to place a pin on the map Important: Navigating the map and moving on to the next section can be tricky on mobile/tablet – you may need to ‘pinch and grab’ to adjust the map To scroll down to the form section (below), make sure you scroll outside the map itself… or you’ll soon be whizzing down south!

4. Fill out the form…

a. Laptop/PC: Enter details by choosing options and/or writing text to the right of the screen

Mobile/tablet: Scroll down below the map and enter details in Step 2 by choosing options and/or writing text

If you find the options too restrictive, or they don’t represent why YOU like this section of Rimrose, click ‘other’ and type it out. We’ve found this to be a bit fiddly on a phone/device, you may have to keep clicking on the text box before it works properly.

Important: When completing the “What could be improved at this location” section, remember; this isn’t Sefton Council asking you, it’s Highways England, who build roads.

There is an assumption being made here that they will be building the road. We advise you to skip this section.

5. Do you have any other comments…

THE MOST IMPORTANT SECTION AND THE ANSWER IS…..YES!!!

This is YOUR opportunity to have YOUR say.

We recommend using the words: “I object to plans to build a road through Rimrose Valley…” followed by whatever else you may wish to add about the part of the valley you are talking about. You can even say that a road is not the right solution, if that’s what you think.

6. When you’re done, click on “Save Comment

7. The first time you do this, you will be asked to enter a valid email address (this won’t be shared)

8. Click Next

9. Again, the first time you do this, you will be asked to fill out some information about yourself, like your post code, age, gender etc *This is optional*

10. Click next again and you will be sent a confirmation email for your comment Important: You HAVE to confirm your comment by clicking on the link in the email, otherwise it won’t be added

11. Repeat…

Once you have filled this out, as far as we can tell, you can repeat the process as many times you like to talk about your use of other sections of Rimrose Valley.

We encourage everyone to do this as we know it’s hard to pin-point one, small section.

It’s like saying “which part of the UK countryside do you like?”

Erm…. How about ALL OF IT!!

12. Like and share!

Commonplace has helpfully provided an option to like others’ comments and to share your own and others’ via Facebook or Twitter.

You can do this be returning to the map and click on the comment… and away you go!

Again, we strongly recommend that you do this, as it will help to raise awareness that this process is now open!
